Show report by Renée Sporre-Willes, BiS Judge Print E-mail
Saturday, 09 August 2014 20:04

I felt very honoured to be invited to judge all groups (except the toy group as I judged it at Crufts) and BiS at Windsor this year. Windsor show being the most prestigious summer show in Britain and being voted the best show in the UK 2013. Windsor is also one of the first summer shows I visited many decades ago. It was an experience that still holds lovely memories and it is marvellous to be given the opportunity to now judge at this level at Windsor. The Windsor committee led by secretary Irene Terry and her team made my appointment a true pleasure, where everything seemed so smoothly operated and the friendly atmosphere is evident everywhere. Most of the weekend was blessed with good weather. Friday had a couple of hours with heavy rain but it did not affect the group judging and my compliments to exhibitors for managing to keep their dogs dry and clean in time for the group judging.

What an absolute treat it was to see the seven finalists entering the main ring and to stand behind the group boards à la Crufts finale.   My sincere gratitude goes to the breed judges that from the almost 9,000 entered dogs sent all those excellent BOB winners through.   The toy group judged by Liz Stannard was headed by the exquisite Japanese Chin, the only one new to me. Even if it is an often used cliché to say that it was a matter of splitting hairs to choose a winner from this magnificent line-up – it was! A BIS selection is a matter of what looks, moves and performs the seconds you set eyes on them.   My sincere thanks to all in the hard working Windsor committee, exhibitors and fellow judges for giving me a really happy memory.

My choice for Best in Show went to Vandreem Imperial Cruz, the young sparkling Samoyed and for Reserve BIS the fabulous Wire Fox Terrier, Ch Travella Striking Steel.

Please come and raise a glass in his memory. Windsor meant so much to him. Should you wish to contact me, please do."

From the Secretary - Diana's gathering on Thursday 26th June will take place in Ring 13.  To enable those friends in PBGV and Basset Hounds to attend, judging for these breeds in Ring 17 will not commence before 1.00p.m.

This year's Windsor entry is up - 8612 dogs making 10,430 entries.

The Committee thank all exhibitors for supporting the Pawscars Championship Show of the Year with an increased entry. All that is now needed is the traditional Windsor weather to give our Summer Garden Party Show the sparkle to go with the Pimms and strawberries! May everybody have an enjoyable and successful day.
