Windsor's Royal Celebration - the 2012 Show Print E-mail
Saturday, 18 August 2012 16:06

The 62nd Windsor Championship dog show was once again held in the idyllic setting of the Home Park – the Queen’s back garden. With the backdrop of Windsor Castle the scene was set for a royal jubilee event. Flags were flown, the national anthem was played and some of the ladies of the committee wore very fetching shirts with a sparkling Corgi embossed on the front.

On the secretary’s table was a framed reply from the Queen to a message that Windsor society had sent her on the occasion of her jubilee.

The championship show was two years old when Queen Elizabeth came to the throne and the society certainly made the most of this historic year with lots of specials and prizes, there was even ‘her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Junior Stakes’ with excellent prize money.

It’s one of my favourite shows of the year for its ‘hazy, lazy days of summer’ feeling with Pimm’s as almost a tradition as well as the summer party. Although I know it rains occasionally, my memory tells me it is the most sun-soaked show of the summer. Of course it isn’t always, but it just evokes memories of Catherine and Beefy Sutton standing outside in the brilliant sunshine surveying the showground.

Grateful thanks to Pam Blay and Dog World for the above opening to her show report.
