2011 - Judging Best In Show Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 September 2011 20:06

When I judged BIS at Windsor a long time ago in the days of the late Catherine Sutton I considered that appointment a great honour. To do it a second time was marvellous and now to have had the invitation to judge BIS a third time I feel is an enormous privilege. Windsor is a truly special show, the setting with the castle in the background, the layout and the atmosphere, all absolutely unique. I have enjoyed my time here very much indeed, I feel at home with the officers and committee and proud to call them my friends. Chairman Oonagh Gore, a lady through and through, guides her team with a gentle but firm hand, alongside the very efficient secretary of many years, Irene Terry. Thank you my friends for a memorable few days which I will think of with pleasure.

Here stood my seven group winners, all beautiful and typical specimens of their respectable breeds. A high quality line up with one common factor: they could all move properly and there was no shortage of style and carriage either.

For me the Bernese was a true working dog. I could well imagine him pulling a big cart filled with heavy milk containers. Fantastic bone and substance, strong body and correct proportions, outstanding dog I was delighted to award him BIS. RBIS went to the black Standard Poodle, majestic carriage and in great form, it was pure enjoyment to watch him go round the ring, every step in tune with his handler.

Thank you to the other group winners owners and handlers for their sportsmanlike attitude.

2011 - A Great Show Print E-mail

Report by Toni Jackson, Dog World special correspondent

WINDSOR'S venue of the Home Park is definitely one of my favourites – what an amazing setting with the river bounding the showground on one side and the castle majestic above the trees to the other.   Home Park is steeped in history – it was originally used for deer hunting by King Edward III.   In the south of the park is the private part, which includes Frogmore House.   Luckily for us show goers, King George III removed the deer in 1785 – and much of the park is now used for sporting pastimes like cricket!
